NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN OF LOW-INCOME PARENTS IN URBAN AREA OF SIALKOT

The present study is to evaluate the nutritional status of public primary
school children of low income parents in urban areas of Sialkot.
Methods:
It is Descriptive population based study, conducted among primary
school boys at Quaid e Azam Public Higher Secondary School, Doburji,
Sialkot. Sample size comprised of 100 boys. Duration of study is 1
month. Research tool for data collection is Nutritional Assessment
Performa, weighing machine, height measuring scale and measuring
tape for head circumference measurement.
Result:
The study is conducted among 100 primary school boys in which 57
were under weight, (57%) and 20 were stunted, (20%) the remaining
were normal.
Conclusion:
Low socioeconomic status, low literacy rate and large family size seem
to be associated with poor health status of primary school children. A
lot more efforts are required on economic, political, educational and
media fronts to improve the nutritional status of the future generations
of Pakistan.
