Abstract

Objectives: The goal of this research is to assess frequency and management options of Gallbladder inflammation at Imran Idrees Teaching Hospital, Sialkot, to improve patient health delivery.

Methodology: This research used a retrospective descriptive design, assessing medical data from Imran Idrees Hospital, Sialkot, from June to July 2024. Demographics, diagnostic procedures, and treatment results for acute cholecystitis patients were collected and examined using descriptive statistics to determine frequency and management options.

Result: During the research period of June to July 2024, 120 patients were diagnosed with acute cholecystitis at Imran Idrees Teaching Hospital Sialkot. Mostly female (60%) aged between 41 and 60 years (45%) were seen. Urban inhabitants accounted for 70% of the incidents. Diagnostic techniques found that ultrasonography was employed in 85% cases for diagnoses, while CT scans in 10% and MRI in 5%. Treatment results revealed that 70% of patients laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed, which remained effective in 90% of patients with little problems. Conversely, 20% had open cholecystectomy, with a 30% complication rate, while 10% were treated conservatively with antibiotics and diet, resulting in symptom alleviation for 80% but requiring further surgical intervention for 20%. The typical hospital stay was three days for laparoscopic surgery, five days for conservative therapy, and seven days for open surgery.

Conclusion: We found a significant frequency of acute cholecystitis among middleaged women, with laparoscopic cholecystectomy being the most beneficial tool.
