: To assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of
healthcare workers about breastfeeding
Methods: A cross sectional study conducted and a questionnaire was
distributed to all the female healthcare workers of Sialkot Medical
College/ Imran Idrees Teaching Hospital, Sialkot. Approval from the
ethical committee of SMC was taken priorly. Questionnaire was close
ended. Three parameters KAP- knowledge, Attitude, Practice were asked
separately in the questionnaire.
Result: 100% Response Rate was obtained. 100% knowledge about
breastfeeding among healthcare workers was observed. 100% positive
attitude about breastfeeding among healthcare workers was seen but
74% were practicing breastfeeding.
Conclusion: Healthcare workers had proper knowledge and positive
attitude about benefits of breastfeeding on health that breastfeeding is
essential for both mother and infant. However, due to some ailments
some healthcare workers were taking drugs so they were not giving
breastfeed to their children. Other reasons were cosmetic issues and
professional responsibilities.
